Poem or song

I would like everyone to bring in a song or a poem(anything written) that represents a specific human  need  to you. Something you've heard or sung to or read that you connect with. You can read the lyrics or sing them. I want to see that everyone has a personal connection to what we're talking about when we say 'need.'   Need:  1) A lack of something wanted or deemed necessary. 2) Urgent want, as of something requisite.  3) A condition marked by the lack of something requisite.  Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary

Rehearsing outside of class

Image
My hope is that you will get together and rehearse during the month between classes.  I suggest meeting twice- each time for two hours of solid rehearsal time would be great.  I know everyone has different schedules and circumstances. Find a way to make it work as best you can. If your scene partner does not seem to be making themselves available, please let me know asap.  You will get more out of class if you prepare. If your scene partner cancels, you can always use that time to read the script again; you can get clearer on the given circumstances and objectives, you can get clear on where the character's need/ overall objective lives in your own life or those around you; address any problems, doubts or other issues you're having; you can do a character private moment at home; you can read from Ivana's book or any book that inspires you. Do anything that inspires you.  From my experience, only commitment and preparation bring growth.  Procrastinatio...

On taking a note

On taking a note When you receive an acting note from me in class, I suggest writing it down in your journal. That way we can refer to it later. When I do give a note, I don’t mean that you should drop the rest of your work and only attend to my note. I want you to keep creating your world, your space, your relationship. There are no “bad” choices. There are only weak or strong choices. Some choices serve the text and bring it to life, some not as much. A choice I give you may be stronger, and it also may stimulate you to find something new. The purpose of any note I give is not to be “right,” but to further the work, to increase the likelihood of you getting more specific and you working closer to your potential and your empowerment in your work.

Acting quotes

Corey Parker Acting Quotes “One cannot always create subconsciously and with inspiration. No such genius exists in the world. Therefore our art teaches us first of all to create consciously and rightly. The more you have of conscious creative moments in your role, the more chance you will have of the flow of inspiration.” Stanislavski   “But the ultimate execution of it is almost ninety-five percent will . All the work before that is you laying the groundwork, asking the questions, understanding what you need to do, understanding what you need to look at, finding the logic to whatever needs to happen, all the character work, all the emotional through line. Once you get there, it’s will. “                                              Philip ...
